"Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier"

                                                                             - Mother Theresa

Her name was Jennie Louise Blaszak. A beautiful southern soul who spent most of her life caring for others. Alongside her lifelong husband Casey, she raised 5 children and helped to raise 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. My name is Erika Blaszak and I was lucky enough to be one of those 13 grandchildren.

Growing up in grandma's care was undoubtably the best thing that has ever happend to me. She taught me honesty, gratitude, and above all, genuine kindness. Admiring her and proudly following along in her footsteps, I learned right from wrong. In 2014, I found out my grandmother had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Little did we know, grandma had been silently fighting this disease without treatment since 2010. Strongwilled and as selfless as they come, she hid her pain in order to take care of my ailing grandfather and the rest of her family like she always had.  74% of patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer die within the first year of diagnosis. My grandmother made it 5 years, ultimately losing her battle at the age of 89.

I personally believe my grandmother was our day and age Mother Theresa. She taught me the true meaning of life, which was give to those who needed it most, to care for others, and to individually do your best to make the world a better place. Devasted does not describe what I felt when I lost my best friend, my biggest role model - my inspiration for doing better on this Earth. In today's world, her qualities were rare - much rarer than they should be. She passed away in March of 2015, and in July - I, along with the astounding help of family & friends, founded One Kind Step in order to carry on her good hearted spirit.

One Kind Step is a movement. It is an organization that we developed to connect communities and inspire positive change. Through creative projects and working with other organizations, we hope to spread awareness and encourage others. We are going to redesign the "volunteer" process. By motivating people in a unique way, we know we can make a bigger difference. Our organization is run soley by volunteers, primarily made up of our family & friends. 100% of all funds associated with One Kind Step go directly towards funding the organization. Please join us in making a difference!
